A personalized keepsake · made in our studio

One story. Two books to keep it in.

Give someone their own story — made from a real life and the photos you already have. We turn it into two companion books: one you read, and one that moves when you flip it. $89 is both books as digital editions, made in our studio in about two weeks. The made-to-order printed pair is $299.

You approve the characters first, then every chapter — nothing is finished without your yes. Stripe authorises at checkout; we charge only after studio acceptance.

…and the one that isn’t on this shelf yet is your person’s.
Made in our studio by real people — nothing prints until you approve every page.

Given for 50th anniversaries, wedding weekends, fifth birthdays, exam days, new babies, retirements — and the people we can’t imagine losing.

For a mother, a grandparent, a couple, a new baby — or the friend who kept showing up.

One story, two books

The book you read, and the book that moves.

Every story becomes a pair. The Story Book is the whole tale, written and illustrated. The Flip Book holds no words at all — flip its pages fast and the same story comes to life like a little film. Below is LUZ, one example pair from our press.

Made by people

Real people make your books — in our studio.

Every keepsake is shaped by our own writers and art directors, with a cultural advisor reading each story for care and truth. You see their work at every fitting, and nothing is finished without your yes.

We are a small studio and we are new, so we are not going to ask you to trust names you have never heard. We would rather you trust the parts you can hold us to: you approve the characters before a single chapter starts, you approve every chapter before anything is finished, your photos are deleted after your books ship — and if the finished books are not right, we remake them or refund you.

Written and art-directed by people Read for care by a cultural advisor Approved page by page by you
How it’s made, honestly. We don’t draw every stroke by hand, and we won’t pretend to. Our studio pairs human writers, art directors and editors with modern image tools — every likeness, character and chapter is directed and reviewed by people, and nothing is final until you approve it.
From your photos to the pages

Your snapshots become the story.

Send the photos you already have. Our art directors shape the people you love into characters — rendered with modern image tools, reworked until it’s really them — and you approve every likeness before it’s finished. Flip the little book and the same moment moves.

Every character is drawn to look like your person — and you approve the likeness before a single page prints.

Photo → page

The photo you already have. The page it becomes.

Ten ordinary photographs — dark, blurry, taken one-handed — and the pages drawn from them. Drag the handle across, or use the left and right arrow keys. Nothing here moves unless you move it.

The illustrated page: the same woman at the same stove, with the window light, the curtain and the steam off the pan drawn in around her.
An ordinary phone photograph of an older woman cooking at her stove, apron on, stirring a pan.

The same hands, the same pan — and the window she never thought to photograph.

The fittings

“But what if it doesn’t look like her?

It is the first thing everyone asks, and it is the right question. So the whole process is built around it: you meet her before we go any further, you can send her back as many times as you need to, and nothing is finished until you say so. Here is what that actually looks like.

  1. The likeness fitting screen: the customer's photograph of an older woman on the left, her illustrated character and two smaller studies on the right, under the question “Does this feel like her?”, with an Approve likeness button and a Request a change button.
    First · the characters

    Does this feel like her?

Your photograph on the left, her character on the right, at the same size. One button approves the likeness. The other asks us to change it. There is no third button that lets us proceed without you.

  2. The character options screen on a tablet, headed “Pick the one that's most them.”, showing three illustrated portraits of the same woman with the middle one selected.
    Still the characters

Pick the one that’s most them

If she isn’t right yet you get options, not an argument. Choose the closest, tell us what’s still off — the set of her mouth, the grey coming in at the front — and we draw her again.

  3. A chapter proof screen: an illustrated spread of the same woman cooking, with a margin comment reading “Could her cardigan be the green one she always wore?” and the studio's reply, “On it — new proof in 2 days.”
    Then · the chapters

    Write in the margin

Only once the characters are yours do the chapters start. You mark up the proof the way you’d mark a photograph — could her cardigan be the green one she always wore? — and a new proof comes back in two days.

  4. The approval timeline screen: Characters approved, Chapter 1 approved, Chapter 2 in review, and Nothing prints until you say yes, beside three full-length character studies.
    All the way through

You can see exactly where it is

Characters approved. Chapter one approved. Chapter two in review. Nothing prints until you say yes — and if you never say yes, nothing ever prints.

Another pair from the press

A different life. The same two books.

Luz grew up between Guadalajara and Los Angeles. Elsie grew up on an English street in the war. Nothing about the two stories rhymes — and both came out of the press as the same pair: one book you read, and one with no words in it that moves when you flip it. Whatever your person’s life looks like, it comes back as these two.

How it works

You know the story.
We make it two beautiful books.

1

Tell us the moment

Write it down or just talk — our guided questions take about 20 minutes. Add the photos you have, as they are.

2

We draw it, you approve

You’ll see every character and every chapter before anything is finished. Ask for changes until it’s exactly them.

3

Both books arrive

The Story Book and the Flip Book, as digital editions in about two weeks — the whole family can keep them. Printed editions are made to order.

Good things take a little time: the digital pair is ready in about two weeks. Printed editions are made to order — about a month. Ordering for a date? Tell us in the intake and we’ll confirm what is possible before production begins.

Nothing is finished until you’ve smiled at every page.

The approval promise

Both books go through fittings — you review the characters, then the chapters, and approve each one. If something isn’t right, we redraw it. Your books are only finished with your yes.

Your photos stay yours

Only the artists making your books ever see your photos. They’re never sold, never reused, never used to train anything — and deleted after your books ship.

The objects

Not a print-out. A book.

Two of them, and they are deliberately different sizes so nobody mistakes one for a copy of the other. Printed editions are made to order; the measurements below are the real ones.

The Story Book lying on linen: a portrait hardcover with a full-cover illustration of an older woman at a window, titled ELSIE.

The Story Book

Portrait hardcover, smaller than A4 and thicker than you expect. The written story, illustrated page by page — tens of pages, or a few hundred, scaled to the life it holds.

170 × 240 mm portrait cloth hardcover the one you read
Two hands holding the mini Flip Book, a small landscape hardcover that sits well inside one palm.

The Flip Book

Landscape, coat-pocket small, and there is not one word inside it. Riffle the edge with a thumb and the same story runs like a little film.

140 × 90 mm landscape textless the one that moves
An open gift box holding the portrait Story Book with the much smaller landscape Flip Book laid beside it, the lid set to one side.

The pair, boxed

Side by side the difference is the point: one to sit with, one to keep in a pocket and hand across a table.

A dark cloth hardcover resting in its open gift box on tissue, the lid placed alongside.

The box it travels in

Rigid, lined, tissue over the top. It is the box people keep the books in afterwards, so it is built to be kept.

Two hands turning a page of the hardcover lying open flat, shown as a blank binder's dummy before any pages are printed.

It lies flat

Shown here as a binder’s dummy — blank, before printing — because how a book opens is a decision you make long before you know what goes in it.

Five dark cloth hardcovers standing spine-out on a sunlit shelf.

It belongs on a shelf

Spine out, between the frames and the other books. That is the test a keepsake has to pass: it survives being put away.

Three close-ups: the name pressed into the cover cloth, the deckled fore-edge of the paper, and a dedication page reading For Elsie.

Three details

The name in the cloth. The rough edge of the paper. And, on the first page, the two words you chose.

What arrives

And then it arrives.

Three short sequences of the printed pair, frame by frame. Hover one, press it, or tab to it — they run when you ask them to and stop when you look away.

The box

The ribbon comes off, the lid lifts, the tissue folds back. Nobody has ever done this quickly.

16 frames

The Story Book

Out of the wrap, cover back, interleaf lifted — and it falls open on the first spread.

14 frames

The Flip Book

One thumb down the edge, fast. This is the whole reason there is a second book.

12 frames

Questions

The honest answers.

How long does it really take?

The digital pair — both the Story Book and the Flip Book — is ready in about two weeks: roughly one week for characters and your first chapter, then the finished pair once you approve. Printed editions are made to order and take about a month. Ordering for a date? Tell us in the intake and we will confirm what is possible before production begins.

What exactly are the two books?

The Story Book is the full tale — written and illustrated, page by page. The Flip Book is its wordless companion: the same story as pure sequential frames, so when you flip the pages fast it moves like a little film. One story becomes both.

What do I actually get for $89?

Both digital books — the illustrated Story Book with the written tale, and the wordless Flip Book that moves when you flip it. They’re yours to keep, re-read, and share with the whole family, forever. A keepsake, not a one-time novelty.

When am I actually charged?

Stripe authorises the full amount at secure checkout, but we capture it only after the studio accepts your order and before production begins. If we decline, the hold is released. Stripe shows a supported local currency before you confirm. After capture, you can still cancel for a full refund up to and including your first chapter.

How are the books made?

Humans and modern tools, together. Our writers and art directors shape each story and direct the illustration with modern image tools, and a cultural advisor reads every story for care. You review the characters, then each chapter, and nothing is finished until you approve it. Made with care takes a little time — that’s the point.

Is this made by artificial intelligence?

Yes, in part — the honest answer is AI-assisted, human-directed. Modern image tools do the rendering. Our writers, art directors and editors decide what gets rendered, what gets redrawn and what never leaves the studio, and a cultural advisor reads every story for care. Human judgment and your approval decide everything — nothing is final until you say so. And your photos are only ever used to make your books: never sold, never reused, never used to train anything, and deleted after your books ship.

Can I make it a surprise, or send it on the day?

Yes. Add a personal dedication, and tell us the date — we’ll make sure it’s ready in time and can send it to them on the day, or to you to give in person.

My photos are old and blurry. Will it still work?

Yes — that’s normal, and often the point. Our art directors work from whatever you have: faded prints, phone photos, even a good description. You approve every likeness before anything is finished.

Can I make this for someone who has passed away?

You can, and many people do. Memorial books are made with extra care and the same approval steps, so the pair feels like a tribute — never a replica. Take your time; there’s no rush on our side.

What if I don’t like something?

You ask, we redraw. Each stage includes a revision round, and nothing is finished without your approval. If they don’t love the finished books, we remake them or refund you.

Do I get printed copies?

The Pair is digital — yours to keep and share forever. The Printed Pair is made to order, comes in a gift box, and takes about a month. Shipping is included in its listed price; any country restriction is shown before payment.
